The Ever Popular Levi’s Jeans
By Heckman Thelma

Levi’s has been making jeans for nearly 130 years. There are a number of reasons as to why the company is continuing to make these jeans. These are also reasons as to why the company has been as successful as it has been with these jeans.

Levi’s makes its jeans with a number of different factors in mind. It takes a look at the things that people do in their jeans and a look at how they want to feel in their jeans. The company knows that all people have different needs when it comes to their jeans and that they want jeans that they can feel comfortable with. This sense of understanding what people want out of their jeans is something that has helped Levi’s to be as popular in the world of jeans as it is.

Only the most durable types of materials can be used with jeans in mind. All of the cotton materials that are used for these jeans are harvested by Levi’s and prepared with basic features without the use of too many chemical materials. This is so the cotton will be fresh and more durable while feeling natural to all people.

Even the buttons that are used on these jeans are made with strong metal materials that are manufactured by Levi’s. These buttons are used to make these jeans more fashionable for a variety of different types of events.

Each pair of jeans is also designed with comfortable roomy pockets. These include the famous pocket watch that has adorned Levi’s jeans since they were first produced by the company.

A great part of these jeans is that they can be found in a wide variety of different forms. There are different types of jeans for men and women with different leg fits. The company makes skinny, straight, boot cut and relaxed types of jeans.

The washes that are used by Levi’s are also incredibly varied. For example, Levi’s makes jeans with traditional blue denim colors. However, these colors can be found in light, medium or dark forms for all sorts of different fashion needs. Tan, black, gray and white colors are also available.

One of the greatest reasons as to why Levi’s jeans have been as popular as they are comes from how they are incredibly affordable for people to get. A typical department store will carry Levi’s jeans at values of less than fifty dollars per pair. Some of these stores might even have huge clearance deals on these jeans.

These are all things that have helped to make Levi’s jeans so popular. These jeans are ones that work with a variety of fashionable designs and in a number of forms. They are also jeans that are made with comfort and functionality in mind.

Levis Jeans has always been a well preferred brand and Men’s Levis in particular has been a raging favorite with the male species.

Fitness on a SHOESTRING

April 8, 2011 by Scott No Comments »

startin_simpleBeen to the gym lately?  Been thinking about  going to a gym? Let me give you an idea of how much easier it would probably be to just get an exercise video and start there…  I have had Easy Stretch , a Video tape by Greg Smithey for years… maybe the same amount of time I’ve been thinking about going to the gym.  Being middle aged and not as active as I would like to be I set up the “gym” in the garage with an elyptical machine and the Easy Stretch Video.  Cardio on the Elyptical (Gazelle), and then the 30 minute tape of stretching.

I have to say that the cardio is easy.  But I would have never ever believed that the stretching would have been so much more advantageous to me.  I don’t want to spoil the video, but I will say that it is incredible how much better I felt after just a couple of days of  s-t-r-e-t-c-h-i-n-g !

I have much more movement and mobility.  Hmmn… a couple of bucks online.  Maybe a quarter at a thrift store… and 5 bucks for the VCR if you threw yours out already.

I’m amazed.

A Real Potato Treat

March 27, 2011 by Scott No Comments »

potato_ricerWhen I was a kid my mother used a potato ricer frequently for a quick treat.  I remember that adding butter over a freshly riced half of a russet potato was YUM.  I still to this day boil a few potatoes then rice’em as I need’em. The potato peel stays in the ricer and the rest gets squeezed into the bowl.  If your ricing a half dozen potatoes you can fry up the skins for a tasty treat too!

The concept works great for yams.  Nothing to it.  Same deal.  Add butter, salt and pepper.

This kitchen utensil has been around for years.  The best pricing are those that have been around for years too.  New ricers can be kinda pricey.potato_ricer_vintage But still, rather than break out the mixer, then all of the cleanup— save some electricity get green and rice your way to a tasty treat.

The kids will love it.

Hot Air Popcorn Popper

March 7, 2011 by Scott No Comments »

popcorn_popperNow here is the real deal.

Growing up, I had friends that had a Hot Air Popcorn Popper. Our family didn’t have one of these fun to watch machines.  But I always had the idea that I needed one, so I asked a friend that frequents thrift shops  to pick one up for me… FIVE BUCKS- still in the box (it took a couple of weeks before one “popped” up).  So easy to use, no mess to clean up, virtually no unpopped kernals, big fluffy popcorn that is so much better for you from the start.  You can add the butter and salt to taste if you like!

I can’t explain how easy and fun to watch this machine is.  Forget microwave bags, forget sliding a pan back and forth on the stove.  Plug the machine in, and 2-1/2 minutes later You’ve got Popcorn!

Lots of buy nows on eBay, mostly around $20.00.  Yard sales might be better, Thrift stores might be 10-15.  But however you find one of these… get one.  Saves time. Great for lazy people.

Antique Coffee Grinders: Creating an Amazing Cup of Coffee

grandma's coffee grinder

By David H. Urmann

Antique coffee grinders are traditional wooden boxes with propeller blades used for grinding coffee beans. It is a kitchen gadget that creates amazing cups for coffee lovers. More people are opting for the old-fashioned varieties of coffee grinders not only because of its durability but due to the unmatched flavor of coffee grounds it can produce.

Antique coffee grinders create a natural coarseness and aromatic flavor of coffee. It is used manually. Aside from this, it is made of wood with metal patterns and designs.

This kind of grinder takes more time before it can achieve finely grind coffee beans, yet it is definitely worth it. Moreover, it is an attractive kitchen décor that showcases an important historical tradition of everyday coffee experiences.

Parker Nation coffee is the oldest regarded coffee grinder with a bronze finish. It was made in Connecticut, US and was formed in 1905. More antique coffee grinders are still in good quality and still being used.

There are many reasons why some coffee fanatics still go for the conventional way of grinding their coffee.

Antique coffee grinders are generally left unpainted because of the natural wood shine finish of its box. The handles along the sides are made from cast iron with intricate designs, for a more appealing look. A small door on the box upper portion is designed for the coffee beans. Grounded coffee falls to its bottom drawer or the collection box once the propeller turns. It is similar to vacuum coffee makers.

These grinders have 2 blades, namely; the disc blades and the cone-shaped blades. Disc blades grind faster and are more accurate compared to conical blades. Blade grinders have single blades that grind more finely and at very high speed.

Antique coffee grinders come in different shapes, sizes designs and blades. Traditional models that sit on top of kitchen counters have handles for grinding beans.

Wall mounted coffee grinders are rare but are exceptionally beautiful. Origins are noted to be of German or French descent. Designs include a porcelain face of a man and woman praying in the filed.

The 1920 design is sleek. It has clean lines running through its mill. Moreover, it favors the Art Deco design with a stylish look. Most models of antique coffee grinders are simple yet attractive.

Functionality

This kind of coffee grinder hand grinds coffee beans in less than 2 minutes by using its handles. A finer grind of espresso would take a longer time, about 6 minutes.

Antique Burr Coffee Grinders grind coffee beans to more even sizes. A propeller needs to be turned in a clockwise manner as it grinds the beans. Then, it passes it onto the collection box. You can have a filter drip coffee when you turn it halfway in a clockwise motion. A grind for a French press should be turned in a ¾ anti-clockwise manner.

Antique coffee grinders are an attractive alternative to modern coffee grinders. They work more quietly compared to its electric counterparts. It provides freshly aromatic coffee grounds and does not overheat the coffee. The construction appears good and almost breakable.

Antique coffee grinders are easy to maintain. Aside from being dishwasher-friendly, its exteriors only need to be cleaned after every usage. Its drive shaft is made with nylon or brass bearings, not requiring any lubrication or maintenance.

Zero pH body soaps can be used for the exterior wood finishing. Avoid using high alkaline content soaps or dish washing solutions on woods.

Burrs can be cleaned with the use of 1/3 cup rice, and then grinding it. You can unscrew the burrs in order to get the remaining sediments from the grinder. Cleaning with a toothbrush is a much better option.

Bread Machines are UNDERrated

December 27, 2010 by Scott No Comments »

bread_makerMany people that I know (including myself), have had a bread machine. The question is, “Is the bread machine being used?”  Where I live, the answer is YES.  Dinner rolls, raisin bread, PIZZA CRUST!!!! Potato bread and more.  A novelty I guess of sort, but the truth is, the bread is good and it’s economical too.

Machines aren’t cheap though, so that is why you should look for the well kept discarded ones at thrift stores, garage sales or eBay.  It has been my experience that at garage sales the bread machines are usually hardly ever used with manuals intact (and you will need these for proprietary recipes).
